Anti Flag is an American political punk rock band consisting of four members: Justin Sane (lead guitar, lead vocals), Chris (bass, vocals), Chris Head (rhythm guitar, backing vocals), and Pat Thetic (drums). The punk rockers from Glenshaw, Pennsylvania - Justin Sane (guitarist) and drummer Pat Thetic decided they were faced with either "hanging out at the mall, doing drugs, or playing punk rock". They chose the latter and Anti-Flag was born. Despite multiple line-up changes, differing political ideologies, and their status as a fledgling independent band, Anti-Flag gained popularity in the punk community, ultimately releasing six albums on various independent labels (ranging from A-F Records, to Fat Wreck Chords, to Go Kart Records). In 2005, the band signed to RCA Records.
Anti-Flag was originally formed in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1988. The band name originates from the experiences that the founders had in their hometown. When the two would go to local shows, they often saw patrons of the shows chanting slogans for "freedom not fascism" while waving the American Flag and sporting the flags with "x"s over them on their jackets. However, these same patrons would constantly participate in violence against those who did not completely agree with their point of view. Justin and Pat saw the brandishing of the American Flag and using it as a tool against others as a form of fascism.

S.C.I.E.N.C.E. CD album by Incubus, released on September 9 1997. It includes an official video. The album has sold 740,000 copies in the US to date.
The album SCIENCE, Incubus' second, contains some of the band's heavier work, and is considered by many fans to be the original definition of their sound but shows the bands search for an ambient sound and higher sound quality which is found in many their later albums. It is a fusion of their various influences and is characteristic of their experimental tendencies. On songs like "Deep Inside" and "Summer Romance (Anti-Gravity Love Song)" show Jazz influences. Much more mainstream-sounding than their first album, Fungus Amongus, it was not indicative of their slower-tempoed follow-up, Make Yourself, which is referred to in many reviews as having been the band's peak in terms of performance.

Incubus band based out of Calabasas, California. Formed by vocalist Brandon Boyd, lead guitarist Michael Einziger, and drummer Jose Antonio Pasillas II while in high school, the band grew to include bassist Alex Katunich (a.k.a. "Dirk Lance""), and Gavin Koppell (a.k.a. "DJ Lyfe"), both of whom were eventually replaced by bassist Ben Kenney (formerly of The Roots), and DJ Kilmore, respectively.

Incubus has recieved both high critical acclaim and commercial success, reaching multi-platinum sales, as well as releasing highly successful singles such as "Wish You Were Here", "Drive", "Anna Molly" and "Pardon Me", among others. Originally part of the nu-metal movement, the band started branch out creatively and earned mainstram recognition with the release of their 1999 album Make Yourself. By 2001, Incubus became hugely successful with the single Drive and their follow up album Morning View. Today they remain one of the most popular rock acts, with their latest studio album, Light Grenades, reaching Gold certification. Their music has also appeared in other media, such as the video games Halo 2 and Guitar Hero, and the movie Stealth.

In 1993, Incubus was introduced to Jim Wirt, a local record producer through Joanne Stanulonis. Joanne was friends with both Jim Wirt and his wife Kathleen. Jim agreed to record demos for the band during unbooked studio time and eventually many of these demos were compiled to create the band's first album - the independently released Fungus Amongus (initially distributed by both the band and Red Eye Records and then ultimately re-released by Epic Records). It was at this time (1993-94) that the band was introduced to Mark Shoffner, a close friend of Jim Wirt, who then became the band's first manager.

In 1995, Gavin Koppell saw the band play and asked if they would be interested in using some of his tracks, which incorporated the use of turntables. Gavin joined full-time after his first rehearsal.

Shortly thereafter, Incubus' unusual amalgamation of styles and high-energy shows, combined with its growing fan base, attracted labels and put the band in the enviable position of a bidding war. Incubus finally landed a record deal in the summer of 1996 with Immortal Records, a label distributed by Sony's Epic Records, whose top artists in those days were Korn and Far. Touring throughout the remainder of 1996, Incubus established themselves as a top drawing live act, gaining a dedicated following all over the United States. To start off the new year, Immortal Records released Incubus' EP entitled Enjoy Incubus on January 7, 1997.

S.C.I.E.N.C.E., Incubus' second studio album,was released on September 9, 1997. "We like it when our stuff sounds as weird as possible," said Mike. "When we signed our record deal and started working on this album, we were worried that someone would come along and tell us to hold back, and try and make our songs a little more palatable. But that never happened. They kinda just said, 'Do whatever you want'. With that kind of support, we just let everything kind of run wild." Said Brandon Boyd, "SCIENCE. was done in six weeks, straight through, at 4th Street Recording. Very different experience, but very important on this band’s existence."

On October 23, 2001, the band released their third full-length major label album. The name was taken from the street on which the band's recording studio was situated. Incubus continued to headline dates after its release, and "Wish You Were Here" continued to sit among the top 10 on Billboards Modern Rock Charts.

After constant touring throughout 1998, and after selling over 100,000 copies of S.C.I.E.N.C.E. without the support of radio or MTV, Incubus then took some time off to record their new album Make Yourself.

Make Yourself was released on October 26, 1999. Right after their album's release, the band went on tour with Primus and Buckethead, a tour which lasted for the remainder of the year. The first song that kicked off the album, "Privilege," was featured on MTV Sports: Pure Ride for the PlayStation. The band also released the single, "Pardon Me," but it was initially not well-received by radio stations.

The band took a break during the first part of 2001 before heading to a beachside mansion in Malibu, California, to record their follow-up album, which would later become known as Morning View.

They hit the road with Hundred Reasons in Europe from June until the first week of July. At this time, the band was invited to play with the Area Festival, which featured Moby, Outkast, The Roots, Paul Oakenfold, Carl Cox, and Nelly Furtado. Also, in July, Make Yourself was certified double Platinum, selling 2 million copies. In August, the band got to play their first shows in Australia and Japan, before returning to the United States to begin their long-awaited headlining tour with their long-time friends from California, Hoobastank.

Incubus issued a limited edition version of Morning View on October 1 to coincide with their fall headlining tour. The new version of the album contained a DVD dubbed the "Morning After View Session". It featured the U.K. video for the group's track "Are You In?", tour footage, new artwork, behind the scenes material, and more. Incubus' last performance in 2002 (on November 1) brought several eras for the band to a close. Their last show of the tour would be their last show touring behind 2001's Morning View, as the band looked on to playing new music. The show would also prove to be their last with bass player Dirk Lance, who left the band due to personal differences.

December the new album, which was recorded at Southern Tracks Recording Studios in Atlanta, GA was recorded live, opposed to recording each instrument on separate tracks at different times, and was produced by Brendan O'Brien (Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Rage Against the Machine) was completed and scheduled for release. Titled A Crow Left of the Murder..., was to be an enhanced CD with behind-the-scenes video. In the videos, Einziger and Boyd discussed their new songs. Einziger described them as "like the old shit, but older. It's very different. It's very energetic and fast, and a lot of it is more technical. I guess maybe in the vein of more of our older songs; they don't sound like our older songs. They are more exploratory."

In November 2004, the band released a live DVD entitled Alive at Red Rocks, filmed in Red Rocks Park, Colorado, during their world tour for A Crow Left of the Murder.... Along with the DVD came a bonus CD featuring five tracks, including a studio version of live favorite "Pantomime", "Follow" (a lyrical version, different from the First Movement of the Odyssey version), and the U.K. B-Side "Monuments and Melodies". Two live tracks were also included.

On December 27, 2006, Incubus launched the "I Dig Incubus" contest, in which participants cut together clips of the band performing their single "Dig," to form a complete music video. On February 1, 2007, five finalists were announced for the "I Dig Incubus" contest. In a video interview on Blender, bassist and vocalist Ben Kenney said, "It's almost something that will happen whether or not we want to do it.

In February and March 2008, Incubus hit the road again and headlined the Soundwave Festival in Australia alongside The Offspring and Killswitch Engage, and toured Asia performing to sell-out crowds. In April, Incubus performed at the Festival Imperial in Costa Rica, along with the bands The Smashing Pumpkins and Duran Duran, and later in Venezuela at the Poliedro de Caracas. Incubus will also be performing a number of shows throughout Europe this summer including the Rock am Ring and Rock im Park Festivals in Germany, the Nova Rock Festival in Austria, Pinkpop Festival in the Netherlands and the Download Festival in England.

T-Pain (Faheem Najm), is an American hip hop, R&B Singer-songwriter and producer who has been noted for using the auto-tune effect in his singing. T-Pain won his first Grammy Award for being featured in the Kanye West song, "Good Life".

T-Pain was b in born (September 30, 1985) Tallahassee, Florida to entrepreneur Muslim parents Shasheem Najm and Aliyah Najm. This Yael Naim album was meant to focus solely on guitar and vocals. But little by little Yael and David Donatien, who encouraged her to sing in Hebrew, padded out the architecture and formed a team. Xavier Tribolet (drums), Laurent David (bass), Voed Nir (cello) and Julien Feltin (electric guitar) joined them as well as S.Husky Huskolds for the mix (Tom Waits, Fiona Apple, Me'Shell Ndegeocello). The instrumentation is pretty minimalist here yet incredibly colourful with the participation of the brass section, the Mellotron, the cello and some programming. Recorded in the young woman's flat in Paris the 13 songs contain a part of Yael happy (Endless Song of Happiness) and a melancholic (Paris, Lonely) existence. Some of them, like Yashanti or Lachlom dive into dreams, others like Baboker bathe in the serenity found at the break of day. Shelcha looks at a love with no future.

The most outrageous is of course the cover of Britney Spears' Toxic. Listening to these little marvels could possibly remind us of old friends like Tori Amos or Fiona Apple. Yet the ensemble isn't witness to excessive borrowing or exaggerated marking, but quite the contrary revealing a sincerity and absolute musical clarity. In fact it is quite astonishing how something that sounds so familiar could seduce our ears with such a nude and original beauty.

Perhaps it is due to the dominance of Hebrew, a language so rarely sung in this context, that comes across as universal as Cesaria Evora's Portuguese Creole? Or is it the simply the very freshness exhaled by the personality of this young woman who discovers in New Soul - sung in English with a contagious optimism - that she is "a new soul, in this foreign world, hoping to learn a little"? "It was when I was really young that I sincerely believed to be an old soul reincarnated and I could even say it gave me a sense of superiority over others. But then as I subsequently did everything the wrong way round I concluded that it was actually my first time on earth and that I should learn to be a more humble." On Far Far, she herself delivers this other perspective, that of a little girl who chases her dreams but who can only achieve them by accepting the "beautiful mess inside". In short both her own personal history and that of this simply magical record.

Alison Krauss was born in Decatur, Illinois in July 23, 1971, but was raised in Champaign, Illinois. She is an American bluegrass-country singer and fiddle player. She entered the music industry at a young age, winning local contests by the age of ten and recording for the first time on her brother's album at fourteen. Alison Krauss signed with Rounder Records in 1985 and released her first solo album at sixteen in 1987. She was invited to join the band with which she still performs, Alison Krauss & Union Station (AKUS), and later released her first album with them as a group in 1989.

She began studying classical violin at five years old but soon switched to bluegrass. Krauss said she first became involved with music because her "mother tried to find interesting things for [me] to do" and "wanted to get [me] involved in music, in addition to art and sports." At age eight she started entering local talent contests, and at ten she had her own band. At twelve she won the Illinois State Fiddle Championship; at thirteen she won the Walnut Valley Festival Fiddle Championship, and the Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass in America named her the Most Promising Fiddler in the Midwest. Krauss first met Dan Tyminski around 1984 at a festival held by the Society. Every current member of her band, Union Station, first met her at these festivals.

Krauss made her recording debut in 1985 on her brother Viktor's independent album, Different Strokes. She performed with John Pennell, bassist and songwriter, from the age of twelve in a band called "Silver Rail". Pennell later formed Union Station, and Krauss joined at his invitation, replacing their previous fiddler Andrea Zonn. Pennell remains one of her favorite songwritersand wrote some of her early work including the popular "Every Time You Say Goodbye." Raising Sand : Perhaps only the fantasy duo of King Kong and Bambi could be a more bizarre pairing than Robert Plant and Alison Krauss. Yet on Raising Sand, their haunting and brilliant collaboration, the Led Zeppelin screamer and Nashville's most hypnotic song whisperer seem made for each other. This, however, is not the howling Plant of "Whole Lotta Love," but a far more precise and softer singer than even the one who emerged with Dreamland (2002).

No matter that Plant seems so subdued as to be on downers, for that's one of the keys to this most improbable meeting of musical galaxies--almost all of it seems slowed down, out of time, otherworldly, and at times downright David Lynch-ian, the product of an altered consciousness. Yet probably the main reason it all works so well is the choice of producer T Bone Burnette, the third star of the album, who culled mostly lesser-known material from some of the great writers of blues, country, folk, gospel, and R&B, including Tom Waits, Townes Van Zandt, Milt Campbell, the Everly Brothers, Sam Phillips, and A.D. and Rosa Lee Watson. At times, Burnette's spare and deliberate soundscape, incisively crafted by guitarists Marc Ribot and Norman Blake, bassist Dennis Crouch, drummer Jay Bellerose, and multi-instrumentalist Mike Seeger, among others--is nearly as dreamy and subterranean as Daniel Lanois's work with Emmylou Harris (Wrecking Ball). Occasionally, Burnette opts for a fairly straightforward production while still reworking the original song (Plant's own "Please Read the Letter," Mel Tillis's "Stick with Me, Baby"). But much of the new flesh on these old bones is oddly unsettling, if not nightmarish. On the opening track of "Rich Woman," the soft-as-clouds vocals strike an optimistic mood, while the instrumental backing--loose snare, ominous bass line, and insinuating electric guitar lines--create a spooky, sinister undertow.

Plant and Krauss trade out the solo and harmony vocals, and while they both venture into new waters here (Krauss as a mainstream blues mama, Plant as a gospel singer and honkytonker), she steals the show in Sam Phillips' new "Sister Rosetta Goes Before Us," where a dramatic violin and tremulous banjo strike a foreboding gypsy tone. When Krauss begins this strange, seductive song in a voice so ethereal that angels will take note, you may stop breathing. It's a trick of alchemy that awful pain and uncertainty can give rise to such bold and striking music. In desperate ballads ("Wicked Ride") and smoky blues songs ("Don’t You Worry Baby"), Philly-area singer-songwriter Melody Gardot finds the universal in her experiences and makes the most of a few well-chosen words. Occasional swells of background vocals and string arrangements rise up to lend angelic support, a throwback to lush, Cole Porter-style jazz-pop. But Some Lessons is more often a sparse affair that recalls her piano bar days, her rich range accompanied by little more than a tender guitar or a stormy piano. Mostly, though, this is Gardot's little secret, a quiet place the young singer-songwriter used to sneak off to before the accident.
Two years ago, she was 19, living in Queen Village and studying fashion at Community College of Philadelphia. One day while riding her bike in Old City, she was struck by a Jeep making an illegal turn. The effects were devastating. Her pelvis was shattered in two places and a spinal injury left her with myriad and strange symptoms. Her debut EP, Some Lessons, recounts the daily struggles and changing worldview which accompanied her gradual, possibly endless, recovery.
"Why do the hands of time so easily unwind?" she ponders over gentle, jazzy guitar. On to the torchy, ruminating chorus: "Some lessons we learn the hard way." Her voice is warm and weighty, hinting at a maturity born not of mileage but of burden and experience. She sings like an older woman because she feels like one.
Her laundry list of medical ailments is so long and so multifaceted, you wonder how she had the strength — or desire — to make music at all.
The pelvic injury means she needs the cane to get around, and can't sit in one place for very long. She finds she has to stretch several times a day, so she's always got her yoga mat with her. Honors Melody or artist Melody Gardot, to say that life is full of trial and tribulations is an understatement. At 21, this young singer/songwriter has gained the life-experience most people don’t achieve until their late forties. “I feel like I have been 40 since I was 8.” she laughs. “I think I had my mid-life crisis at 13”. But despite a having the aura of an old soul about her, this young singer/guitarist/pianist makes it clear that even the toughest spots in our lives are an opportunity to shine.
The release of the “Some Lessons Bedroom Sessions EP” happens this April. “Some Lessons” is the title track featured on the album. It tells the story of the accident that recently happened: While Melody was atop her old messenger bike on her way home in Philadelphia, PA, she was struck by a Jeep, landing her in a whirl of recovery for nearly two years. Yet, the most difficult consequences were not multiple pelvic fractures or head trauma - at least not to Melody. Most trying, were the hearing and vision disorders which persist, even now, due to what is believed to be an autonomic nervous system dysfunction. This extreme Hyperacusis and Photosensitivity immediately meant: no more music.
Wanting desperately to regain her privilege to play, Melody continued to seek a solution. That solution came all on its own, in the form of inspiration for this album. It was recorded initially by her bedside, while she could not walk. More tracks were cut while she regained her ability to sit up, but all in the bedroom (hence why subtitled “bedroom sessions”). In this EP, the young songstress has woven simple elements of blues, jazz, folk and even old Tin Pan Alley stylistics, giving the album a rich, soul-filled mix, which reaches deep into your memory for heart-felt classics. Her titled track “some lessons”, a note-to-self kind of song depicting the insight gained from life’s hardships, is the last track on the EP, and rightly so. Quiet resignation is clearly not an option for Melody Gardot. Rather than backing down in the face of disability, she chooses to humbly bow to it with a six song tribute to its very existence.

Surprisingly, there isn't any classic old material either (unless you count Jennifer Holliday's "Givin' Up" from 1987). With songs pulled from other albums, the CD functions like a mix-tape conceived by Tyler Perry for your very special candlelit moments. Highlights include a cover of the Michael McDonald/Carly Simon 1977 hit "You Belong to Me" by Anita Baker (still the queen of bedroom tunes) and Beyoncé's classy, understated "Flaws and All." But the more appealing tunes come from lesser-known quarters, like Musiq's organic, old-school "Betterman" (this guy needs a better agent; he deserves to be huge), and Amel Larrieux's pared-down, piano-driven "No One Else." I'm Not There Movie Soundtrack (audio CDs Album) By Original Soundtrack

Many people have covered Bob Dylan's songs over the years, but few quite like this. On the double-disc soundtrack that accompanies Todd Haynes' extremely confounding biopic of the already plenty confounding folk icon, we get the likes of Sonic Youth, Cat Power, Yo La Tengo, the Hold Steady, and Antony & The Johnsons doing their best Dylan impressions and often failing gloriously. Former Pavement frontman Stephen Malkmus does a particularly fine job oozing his way through "Ballad of a Thin Man," while Wilco's Jeff Tweedy draws the moody beauty out of "Simple Twist of Fate," and Sufjan Stevens lends his typically baroque touch to "Ring Them Bells." Special credit has to go to the Million Dollar Bashers, the unofficial house band that includes Steve Shelley on drums, John Medeski on piano, and Tom Verlaine on guitar, along with other notable musicians. The generous track list and dynamic set of contributors promises that this album will provide plenty of awe long after the film itself has been forgotten.

Taking a break from his day job fronting rock Pearl Jam, Eddie Vedder immerses himself into the big-screen story of a young man who gives all his money to charity and hitchhikes to a new life, and his eventual death, in the wilds of Alaska.

Into the Wild Prompted by the film's creator, Sean Penn, to contribute to the musical score, the Seattle musician tackled the entire project, playing every instrument on the soundtrack's nine original and two cover songs. Eddie Vedder contemplates the traveler "setting forth in the universe" in the opener "Setting Forth," then tracks in the remaining songs the realizations and disillusionments that follow. A wish comes true in banjo-plucked "No Ceiling" to "up and disappear," while affluence is questioned on the hard-rocking "Far Behind," with Vedder singing, "Empty pockets will/Allow a greater sense of wealth." No song in the album's first half exceeds two-and-a-half minutes, remedied by Vedder's pertinent five-minute stamp on the remake of Indio's "Hard Sun," complete with eerie backing vocals by Sleater-Kinney's Corin Tucker. The songwriter puts wealth on the hot seat in "Society," questioning, "If less is more/How you keepin' score?" The darkly sung folk song bookends the reticent declaration "Guaranteed," wonderfully delivered and quietly strummed, in which the prodigal Vedder wraps the journey in one line: "Leave it to me as I find a way to be/Consider me a satellite forever orbiting." Melody Gardot is singer/songwriter, American musician in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Born in New Jersey in 1985, she was disabled at 19, after being struck by a car while riding her bicycle. This event, though tragic, led to her recognition as a remarkable musician.
Her musical beginning was prompted by a tending physician who was concerned with her cognitive impairment as a result of head injury sustained in the accident. He believed music would help her brain injury drastically improve, as it has been known to show remarkable results in improving people's cognitive ability after such trauma. It helps by rebuilding the pathways within the brain which are necessary for recalling data. (Specifically in the areas of Memory, Calculating Data, Executive Functioning Skills, etc.).
Following her doctor's suggestion, Melody Gardot made recordings bedside, while still unable to walk, and eventually released the works as an EP titled "Some Lessons the Bedroom Sessions". Gardot's desire to be well, combined with a bit of luck, brought her to the attention of a local radio DJ at the AAA station WXPN, known for launching the careers of artists such as Amos Lee and Norah Jones. She quickly gained public esteem as "a singer/songwriter phenom," both for her stunning music as well as her remarkable courage despite her afflictions.
Her first full-length album, a follow-up to the EP Some Lessons, is entitled Worrisome Heart. The album features 11 original songs (iTunes US version omits the track "Wicked Ride") written by Melody Gardot and was co-produced by both Grammy-award-winning producer Glenn Barratt and Melody Gardot. Description the Once OS album: Even those allergic to musicals may be won over by Once, a tender-hearted Irish romance with songs by Czech Republic-born Markéta Irglová and Frames frontman Glen Hansard. (The film's director, John Carney, actually used to play bass in the group.) The trick here is that Irglova and Hansard also play the leads; because their characters are shown busking, writing music, or rehearsing, the songs are smoothly integrated in the film. The overall acoustic mood won't surprise fans of the Frames, some tracks ("Say It to Me," "When Your Mind's Made Up") have even popped up on the band's albums, though the arrangements are more pared-down here, befitting the scruffy, street-musician setting. Being the lesser-known entity, Irglová feels like a revelation; she sounds a bit like a folkie Björk on "If You Want Me," and her song "The Hill" is downright heartbreaking. Irglová and Hansard had already made the 2006 album The Swell Seasontogether, so their collaboration here feels really organic--they sound particularly good together on the title track, for instance. In the light of the album's release, Boys Like Girls completed their first headlining tour, supported by Permanent Me and Scenes from a Movie in August and September, before heading out on an East coast tour, opening for Lostprophets and Eighteen Visions throughout October 2006.
